Paris - Day 2

Other than people there may be one thing I really miss from home, Greek yogurt. Arin and I picked up some Dannon raspberry yogurt at the grocery store because we like to start our mornings off with some protein, but the 4.5g of protein and million g of sugar just isn't the same! I added some almonds and it gave me enough energy to explore the Notre Dame.
As you can tell the sun was really intense right from the beginning, which only made the stain glass even more beautiful.
I'm a sucker for stain glass windows! I also loved the way the statues looked in front of the glass.
We thought about climbing to the top, but them we saw the line and price combination and figured our money and time could be better spent else where. We walked around the full island that the Notre Dame was located on until we reached Pont-Neuf, the oldest bridge in Paris. From there we saw a lock bridge! There are multiple in Paris, but this one was called Pont des Arts. I brought an extra lock for this exact occasion!
I didn't write anything on the lock because there are way too many people/relationships I'd want to symbolize with this lock and too little room.
Putting my lock on and throwing the key in the water!
I've offically left my mark!
(It's the little one in the center!) All the walking and heat got us really hungry and I decided it was crepe time!
This picture does not do justice to just how HUGE this thing was! It was stuffed with more cheese and ham than I thought was possible. I admittedly was feeling a little weighed down after... But it was so yummy I couldn't stop before I was all gone! Back on our feet we head out in the direction of Sorbonne where Arin's mom studied for a summer. Next to that was the Pantheon.
Which ironically was having work done on it by a company called lefevre! This was also the name of the dorm Paige, Arin and I called home sweet home first year!
Right down the road was the Jardin du Luxembourg. It was absolutely gorgeous!
It was too hot in the sun so we found some seat in the shade by a gazebo. We seem to have good timing because as we sit down a suite clad band started to play!
The music was the perfect afternoon rest! However we were still in the mood for another afternoon treat... Ice cream! On the tiny island Ile Saint-Louis there are seven outlets of Berthillon, the most celebrated ice cream parlor in Paris. The streets are so small on this island that our maps didnt really help us much. We passed 4 outlets before we reached the original one... So we thought... After we got our ice cream we realized the REAL original one was just one more block down... No worries because the ice cream is the same!
Vanilla, pistachio and apricot for me! (This is one time I'm really missing american size portions.) This island also gave us a beautiful view of the Notre Dame from behind.
I still can't believe that this building was build 850 years ago!! We decided to head to the Les Halles shopping area, but along the way we past the Place de l'Hotel-de-ville which is now an extravagant town hall, that was hosting a public viewing of the French open! I've never been big on watching tennis and it was VERY HOT, but Arin and Paige were super excited! It was definitely cool to say I watching an intense match of the French open in the streets of Paris.
This doesn't show all the people sitting in the center in front of the screen! It was nice to get out of the sun and what better way than the underground mall at Les Halle's that had... Wait for it.... Free wifi!!
That's when I was finally able to post a bunch of my blog posts! We were sitting there so long we actually got asked to move by a security guard... Oops! Anyways we were ready for dinner by then. We went to the Latin Quarter and found a 3 course meal for a fixed price of 16.9 euro (which was much lower than anything else around). I went with the onion soup (no French needed before the name when you're already in France). I also apologize was hungry and didn't remember to take a single picture before diving in.
Always a favorite in my book! Arin and Paige got mussels... I tired them but I'm still not a fan.
I got salmone for my main course. I was a little bummed, but it was still nice to have a little something different than I've been eating recently.
Arin with the beef classic.
I dipped a couple of my potatos in it. To finish off I channels Maddy and ordered the crème brûlée. I enjoyed every bite of it!
As we walked our full bellies to the metro we got a beautiful view of the sunset over the Seine.
I'd like to point out that some of don't walk signs are really sassy here.
It's funny because not all of them have their hands on their hips. But just another wonderful day in Paris!
