BUT more imporantly, today is the day.
My purse is officially going out of commission and if everything goes well it will be left in Venice (I was thinking of filling it with rocks and dropping it to the bottom of a canal... Too much?). Here is the new one that is coming out to play. We started our morning off early to beat the rush at the Mercati Di Rialto. It was a beauitful day and view from the top of Venice's oldest bridge.I didn't get the hat memo. I grabbed a chocolate brioche (pretty much a chocolate drizzled, Nutella filled croissant) at a little cafe.Don't worry I only ate one the other one was Magdalena's. The market was fresh and beautiful per usual. I skipped the seafood selection...
But I did grab a banana.
As we went to cross back over the Rialto we came across some type of military ceremony. They were talking in Italian, but it sounded like some type of anniversary of a battle and they were walking from significant place to place. It's always fun to stumble across random things. The next thing on our agenda was visiting the island of Murano where all the glass making takes place (since it was ban from Venice because fear of fires). On the way to the water shuttle we passes the bridge of sighs I mentioned the day before.
Right when we got off the boat we were pointed to a glass blowing demonstration.
The whole demonstration only took about 5 minutes and in that time he made one vase and a fish!
I was very impressed, but also okay with getting out of the heat! Next we weaved in and out of stores comparing prices and selection until we were super hungry. Luckily we stumbled upon a great looking pizza place that had a huge outdoor patio!
We split three pizzas: margarita, funghi, and zucchini.
It was really fresh and tasty. Right across the bridge was the Basilica di Santa Maria e San Donato. I am sad to inform you I was unable to locate the dragon bones. I think I needed to know Latin so I could read where they were, but their was a mummified person and beautiful mosaic floors. I am also the only person left in the group who hasn't sworn in a church. We did some more walking around and I got a small scoop of limone gelato. I'd show you what it looked like, but I finished it too fast.
At least the cup was cute and the view is nice. (I also picked up lots of presents on this island so get excited). An island that is known for glass of course has to have a huge glass piece.
They definitely didn't demonstrate how to make something like that. On the way back to S. Marco I saw the perfect thing to add to my birthday list...
Pretty please? Ill drop it for now and maybe try for Christmas? We spent a good amount on sit down meals here so far so we decided to just pick up something smaller for dinner.
Something "rustico" with mushrooms, peppers, ham, cheese and lettuce. Yum. And I finalllllly got this green thingy I've seen everywhere!
It was so good!!! Definitely bigger than I needed, but I'm letting myself enjoy this one month of eating no regrets! Anyways we walked around for a bit after.
